Get it checked 2017

Cervical Screening Three years ago I wrote about what it is like to have a cervical screening and, as I have just had another test, I thought I should update what it is like. I thought this one would be all serious but, I have just had the funniest fucking screening in the world! Alright, it was funny to me at the time. Background and info First, some background for anyone who missed out on my previous blog (although you can click the link above to read it). Women from the age of 25 are offered a cervical screening every three years and every five years from the age of 50. This is free on the NHS for women in the UK and I think that is the most amazing thing ever! We live in a country where we have access to a free test that saves lives! I know I am really fucking lucky and I will never take this for granted! Anyway, you get a letter through the post offering you a screening and it comes with a really informative leaflet. You don't have to take the test but it is so worth ...

Where is May?

Before I start, read this Huffington Post article. Theresa May is running scared Where is our PM? Have you seen her? Have you seen her without an invitation to see her? That is the real question.  No TV debates May has said she will not be participating in TV debates because she thinks the public want to meet with her and not see the debates. She will be interviewed on the tele though so there is that. The BBC and ITV have already said that they will hold leader debates and the threat is there to 'empty chair' her if she doesn't turn up. Unfortunately Corbyn's team have been hinting that he won't do a debate without May but I think that would be a mistake. I think he should definitely appear and make her seem the scared little wotsit she really is (wanted to say something stronger but I didn't because I am a nice girl). Who is she really meeting? That is the question. If May is so desperate to 'meet the people' on this campaign the...

Get it checked

I know from talking to young women my age or a little younger that there is some fear about going to the nurse or doctor for cervical screening. I want to tell you now that it is totally not a big deal. Honestly! I have just made an appointment for my second ever cervical screening. I actually can't believe that it has been three years since the first one! Wow, time flies! Let me tell you about my experience so you can see it really isn't a problem at all. Basically you go in to see the nurse (or doctor) for about 5 minutes. Honestly, that is all it takes. I turned 25 three years ago and got my first summons. Basically you get a letter through the post from the NHS with a leaflet that tells you all about the screening process and why it is important. When you are 25 you get the first one and then you go back every three years until you get a little older and then you go back every 5 years (eventually you don't have to go at all). Once there your nurse will either just...

Daily comment: There may be trouble ahead

Cuts in the education maintenance allowance (EMA) are being blamed for students quitting college or not going at all after GCSEs.  The idea of the EMA was to allow students to pay for travel to college and buy books, etc.  It was an incentive to learn and would help the poorest people.  I remember when I was at college talking to people on the EMA and they told me they would not be able to go to college without it.  It was a lifeline to them. 20 NHS trusts have been named as 'vulnerable' by the Health Secretary, Andrew Lansley.  This includes Winchester and Eastleigh, which are my local trusts.  This is a scary prospect that they face cuts.  The NHS is something that we should be putting more into, not letting it fail.  Use the #SaveTheNHS on Twitter to make this heard. Unemployment is at its highest level for 17 years!  It currently stands at 2.57 million.  Gideon needs to get the economy on track to create jobs for these people....

Daily comment: Life's not fair

Foxy has been tagging social trips on to official trips to meet Werritty, all paid for by the tax payer.  So we have been paying for them to have a little working holiday. Sri Lankan officials claim that Werritty offered to sell them arms when on a trip with Foxy.  Werritty also started several companies to match Foxy's job.  One was UK Health Ltd when Foxy was Shadow Health Secretary and the other was Security Futures when Foxy took on defence.  'CallmeDave' won't want Foxy to be on the back bench though as he is very right wing and has a lot of influence.  This would be too dangerous for the Tories in the coalition. The Lords are voting on the NHS reforms today.  If you want to keep this institution as it is then sign this: https://secure.38degrees.org.uk/message-to-lords In other news the NOTW hacker, Glenn Mulcaire, wants the victims to stop suing him as he feels persecuted.  Not a nice feeling, is it Glenn?

Foxy has been tagging social trips on to the end of official trips to meet his friend Werritty.  Because they are tagged on to the end of official trips he has been able to claim for them from tax payers' money, which means we have been paying for him to have a holiday with his bezzie.  On top of that Sri Lankan officials caims Werritty offered to sell them arms when on a trip with Foxy.  Werritty also started a string of businesses including UK Health Ltd when Foxy was Shadow Health Secretary and then Security Futures when Foxy took on defence.  So there was no attempt to cash in there... 'CallmeDave' won't want Foxy on the back bench as he is a right winger with lots of influence.  He would be too dangerous and would cause too many problems.  Still...wonder who burgled Foxy's Den? Today the House of Lords will vote on the NHS bill the governement want to push through.  This is basically a way of splitting up and privatising large areas of the N...

Choose your Public Services

According to a news report today ( http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2011/jul/11/nhs-health ) the government is suggesting that failing schools and health care units be shut down in a move that essentially would let the public pick and choose their public services with little or no intervention from central governement.  This sounds almost Victorian in nature it is such a step back and is just coming across as another way to tear apart public services. Still it is nice that there is a certain scandal around to detract from the reports that have been leaked isn't it?  The coalition must be hoping that people will be too pre-occupied to notice...
