A love letter to horror Horror is just one genre I adore alongside fantasy and sci-fi, but horror has consistently been there in my life. Some of my earliest memories involve horror, or things with a horror theme. When I was born in the mid-1980's, and for a few years after, there were regular repeats of things like Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' video on TV. I also remember being shown the camp, kitsch and yet horror inspired Rocky Horror Picture Show when I was five years old. Back then I couldn't understand the story, but what I loved was the songs and the horror visuals. Even as a child I could appreciate the power of Tim Curry (Frank 'N' Furter) dressed in a dark cape with black eye shadow and dark red lipstick (like some incredible vampire figure). On being a fan and the number of times it has saved me You hear this a lot (or read it a lot) if you go online and scroll through your twitter or tumblr timeline. Someone will be talking about how a particular song, band, tv show or film saved their life. You might not understand this way of thinking and I am genuinely happy for you because it means you have had the stability in your life to just enjoy things without them taking on a greater meaning for you. However, I am one of those people and I am going to explain how being a fan of different things at different times saved my life...in some cases literally! Welcome to another blog post straight from my mind. I know these are now few and far between but I feel like blogging when passionate about something is important. This one is about my renewed love of wrestling and in particular that of the WWE. I have had people tell me recently that at 31 years of age it is immature to like wrestling of any kind and that it is 'fake'. I am here to tell you why all of that is bulls**t. So the fourth season of Sherlock is over and it was brilliant. Well that is my opinion and I am entitled to it. Some people liked it, some people hated it. Whatever. I liked it. Turns out though that the geniuses at Digital Spy watched it, loved it, but had a load of questions about the last episode (or film as the actors and writers call them). The Great British Bake Off (or Bake Off as it is commonly known) is a national treasure. Every week on a Wednesday night the nation sits down and watches a group of amateur bakers creating weird and wonderful baked goods in an attempt to stay in the competition and become overall baking champion at the end of the series. The timing is perfect, just when people are sitting down to a cuppa and a slice of cake at 8pm. Not only that, the show has been on the BBC since it has begun and it seems so British to have that pairing. This week the nation was rocked by the news that the show had been sold to Channel 4 because the production company, Love Productions, was asking too much money for it. The show is enormously popular with around 15 million viewers watching last year's final and an average of 10 million per episode this series. I thought it was about time I updated my list of favourite things. Here we go: Author: Haruki Murakami. I love him so much and I have almost completed my collection of his novels. That will be my aim next pay day and then I will be on to his non-fiction works. I thoroughly recommend you read anything by him to be honest. Book: It has to be a Murakami novel to be honest and it is Norwegian Wood. I know that sounds cliche and like everyone would pick that novel because it is the one that made him a household name around the world. It was even adapted into a movie around six years ago and Murakami wasn't too happy about the explosive level of fame it bought him at the time. I love all his novels but this one keeps drawing me back to read it again and again. I can't explain it but it is so beautifully written and it is so easy to read and enjoy.
