Fear of flying

Image
I realised I haven't posted here for a while, so I am long overdue. I had thought about putting this one on my anxiety blog, but I feel the science part makes more sense here. A little about my fear I never used to have a fear of flying. Actually, the first couple of times I got on a plane I absolutely loved it and it was one of the best experiences of my life! Then something happened to me. I don't know what, but I think it was connected to an extreme bout of anxiety and stress I had in my early 20's because the first time I got on a plane with my now husband, I lost it entirely for the whole flight! This was about nine years ago now and I have been getting better every time, but it still weirds me out. I am hoping that this blog will be cathartic and allow me to get over some of this fear before I next get on a plane...which is very soon at the time of writing. The frustrating thing is that my husband is utterly obsessed with planes! Cannot get enough of them and des...

The Power of Dreams

I am not usually one for these sorts of new agey ideas, but I do believe that there is something in our dreams. To understand what our dreams are trying to tell us we must first understand why we dream. There are different theories behind why we dream and the truth is that no one really knows. One is that we dream so we can act out our desires and fantasies in a safe environment. There is no consequence in a dream which isn't real. You may not realise you were worried about something but it surfaces in our dreams. Dreaming is only one part of sleep and sleeping is actually when our brains are most active. Sleep is beneficial in that it rests our bodies and repairs any damage done during the day but the brain uses ...

Daily comment: 2015

The news today has been a little thin for my liking and I am still waiting to hear Foxy's address at Parliament.  I thought I would comment on what a let down 2015 will be then. Yesterday it was announced that physists had 'broken' physics by inventing a way of making things hover.  This is a genius break through and means we are one step closer to that hover board I always wanted.  Why have I always wanted one though?  Simples.  Back to the Future. When I was a kid that was the future as far as I was concerned.  Being born in the mid-eighties I grew up watching those films and loved every one of them.  The first and last films primarily dealt with things from the past, 1955 and 1885.  In the second film though, Marty and Doc go into the future, 2015.  Now back in the mid-eighties/early ninties this was a long way off and anything seemed possible.  The inventions could have been anything. What came to pass though?  Well w...
