We will get what we deserve
So it turns out that there is still roughly 40% of the population that would still vote Tory in the next General Election. This comes after massive public spending cuts (more of which in a moment), scandal (by more than one politician) and the dodgy News International connections that have come in light of the phone hacking scandal.
This week alone we were given the perfect headline "Cameron rode Rebekah Brooks' Horse" (truncate it and have some laughs). Incidentally I would like to thank my very good friend Dan for the following: http://hasdavidcameron.com/ Have a good LOL at that! This shows the deep connection between the staff of NI and surely shows that the media has had (and I suspect still does have) a lot more sway in politics than I would care to have. Who is influencing who? We have surely come to an age where politicians would rather court the press than the public as it is the press that tell the public what to believe. In some cases such as NI and in particular the Daily Mail we are treading on dangerous ground. This is surely shown by the fact that the public has more concern over immigration than the attempts at sneaking slavery in by the back door that this government has.
I am of course talking about the government's plans to make young people on job seekers allowance do unpaid work experience or have their benefits cut. I know the government has been on the television and in the papers saying this is not the case, well if they are correct then I know a lot of people who have been mis-informed, my own brother included. He was lucky to gain full time employment before having to engage in this scheme, but he was told he had to or lose his job seekers. That came direct from the Job Centre to him and this was after our local MP (unbelievably he was helped by a Tory) actually did a very good job in securing him the money the Job Centre were trying not to pay him anyway! Many people complain about this scheme, or rather grumble and then get on with their lives reading their tabloid rag and watching vacuous television (see tonight ITV 8.05pm Take Me Out...my ex-boyfriend goes on there in a garish shirt and attempts to chat up women...joy of joys...) Anyway...you get the point...
Turns out as well that Michael Gove has been told to release emails from (apparently) his wife's private account that he used to conduct government business. Still people don't look at this, they still support this. Well they must do or there would be uprisings right? Anyone?
Lastly it will come as no surprise to learn that the people being worst affected by the Public Sector spending cuts are the vulnerable. This time it is women attempting to escape abusive relationships. Hostels and safe houses for victims of domestic abuse are being shut down because the money is not there to support them. Along with the buildings goes the counselling staff. This is putting the lives of thousands of women in danger, all because the spending is cut. I dread to think of the total consequences. It turns my stomach to do so. These are women at their lowest point who need to get away to a safe and secure place where there is help and no threat to their mental and physical well-being. This is how much our government thinks of these women. Scary.
Actually not lastly. I would like to say to the government that it is a crazy idea to privatise the police. What a terrifying existence that would be. What if they have to fulfill performance quotas? What kind of police force would we see there and how many innocent people will be put through the system just to present 'results'?
If you have taken the time to come on the internet today and have a think I thank you. Otherwise I will leave you to your Saturday tabloid, your vacuous TV and your lol cats.

Thanks Sarah.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like the government's current strategy is to keep the left fighting on so many fronts that we can't even keep up with what they're cutting/selling-off.
Basically what we're being left with is the worst of both worlds: no public services, free-market level corporation taxes ...but socialist level income taxes and VAT. Ordinary people are being made to pay more than ever into a system that is providing less and less to us -- just giving more and more to the Bullingdon club.
And where the hell is Labour? They should be screaming murder over this. I don't know how we're going to get out of this when we have 3 main parties, two bad and one pitching as "not quite so bad".
I think our only hope is to build a new Britian from the inside out through the cooperative sector.
I think you might have a point. The way the current system works is out dated and now of a previous time. Perhaps the whole thing needs a rethink? The system today needs modern thinking and less focus on the so called traditions of the past.
