Best laid plans

Whatever I try and write about or vlog about I always seem to end up taking extra long breaks. This is mostly to do with getting distracted on a regular basis. I have been meaning to do the second part of my Lord of the Rings vlog for weeks now and I have not got round to it because of a combination of wedding planning and watching the Olympics. This is unfortunate of course. I also seem to have ideas of vlogs when I am away from a place where I can jot down a note of them as a reminder. Then, when I get to a computer I have totally forgotten what I intended to write about. I don't know why this is. If there was a way of getting my creativity sorted I would be better at getting things out on a regular basis. I can only blame wedding planning and anxiety as the things stopping me from doing what I planned. I therefore apologise for that. If there are things you would like me to write or vlog about please let me know.

Horror films

Image
Just a few thoughts on my time watching horror films. This is the incoherent mess that comes out of my head when I over think things so enjoy this. Sex = death This is a common theme in horror films. Sex is wrong if outside of marriage like before marriage or if it is an extra-marital affair. It can be a symbol for picking up an STD. Curiosity Questioning everything, the status-quo, will get you killed in a horror film. This is a sign that to do the same in general life is dangerous and you should do as you are told. Characters are usually young There are a couple of points around this. It is tragic to see someone die young. Also these sorts of films are more likely to appeal to that age group who want to see films about people like them. There is a message that young people are inexperienced and need to learn though. No one turns the light on The dark means that people can't see what is waiting there and this adds to the feeling of dread and suspense. Nothing appea...

Turning 30 - things I grew up with

Image
So I am turning 30 soon and it got me thinking about some of the things I grew up with that some of the younger people I know didn't experience. Tamagochis Or rather the cheap versions of them for me. I had one call Bobby the Dinosaur. I also had some robot thing that never evolved but lived forever (until I lost it in Clarks one day) and also I had a Giga Pet but the battery life on it was shit so I got rid of it. I would still like to have a digital pet again though. Those things were life sapping but fun at the same time. Floppy disks We didn't get a home PC until I was 14 but I did use them in school. You had your own floppy disk with your name written on it so you could save all your work on to it. When we got a PC at home we had about a million of the things lying about all over the place. The worst thing is that I have genuinely had people ask me why there were 3D save icons around back when I was a kid. *facepalm* Encarta This encyclopedia...

Why we needed Andy Murray to win

While the post-Brexit blues still hang over us we needed something to raise the collective spirit of the nation and on Sunday 10 July 2016 that came in the form of Andy Murray winning his second Wimbledon singles title. As previously written about we who voted remain have been feeling something that can only be described as grief. Studies have been done to back this up. Apparently we are suffering sleepless nights, intense feelings of sadness and emptiness and going through the stages of grief like denial and anger. The other things since then include the dropping of the pound to a 31 year low and the rise in hate crime (racism basically). This is all off the back of Brexit. It isn't just Brexit that has made the nation feel this way. Basically June and early July was a rubbish time for us all. England were knocked out of the last 16 of the Euros by Iceland who are made up of professional and amateur players and who's coach is a dentist. Then there have been the large n...

ICYMI

Just a round up of things that we should all be aware of. Although if you haven't heard this stuff then you have been living under a rock. 1. Brexit is still rubbish Since the vote two weeks ago the pound is still at a 31 year low. There are now worries that the pound will reach parity with the US dollar if leaders and banks do not act fast. On top of that the people who were in charge of bringing about this economic mess have all jumped ship. Boris Johnson has decided he doesn't want to be leader of the Tories (and by extension PM). This could have something to do with the fact that he never really wanted Brexit in the first place. What Bo Jo really wanted was the PM's job with a slight majority remain so he could say he tried to bring us out of Europe but the people wanted to stay and no one likes Cameron anymore so he had to be PM but it is ok really because he can see benefits in remaining. The actual result was a shock for him and now he doesn't want to clean...

Why do England always fail?

Image
It has been a couple of days so I have had a chance to digest this and think about why England have been booted (literally) out of another football tournament. On Monday night (27 June) the nation sat down in front of their TVs expecting England to go through to the Quarter Finals of Euro 2016 in France. After the final group game it looked like England would have to play Portugal and the nation was concerned about this. Although Portugal had been sub-par at times they were still a force to be reckoned with. Then, at the last moment, Iceland scored a goal and went through in a position to play England instead. This seemed like a gift from the football gods as the side is made up of part-time players and the assistant coach is a full-time dentist! Within a few minutes England were awarded a penalty and it was put expertly in the back of the net by Wayne Rooney. It looked like this was the flood gates opening and it would be the first of many goals for England that night. Then, the u...

In mourning

I am in mourning for my future, my unborn children's future and those friends of mine who were just slightly too young to vote this time. Last night it was announced that Britain had voted to leave the EU and all based on a pack of lies. Even this morning Nigel Farage of UKIP has been on national television and admitted that the Leave claim of £350 million a week into the EU which could go to the NHS was a lie. He actually sat there and said that. Already we have seen the pound plummet to a 31 year low. The last time the pound was this low was 1985. I was born in 1986. I have literally never known it to be this bad in my entire life. I am 30 in November. Cameron has already said he is standing down in October. As if the country were not fucked enough this morning he is adding more uncertainty into the mix, but really he has nowhere else to go. He should never have called this referendum in the first place. Then for him to stand on TV and cry is just as big an insult to the co...
