Naughty Foxy, silly Huhne

The Conservative Party conference was barely over when a source of major embarrassment for the PM jumped out of the woodwork.  One day the press were praising Cameron for his speach about putting children in care with parents of another ethnicity when being adopted, the next Dr Liam Fox was in the news for what looks to be corruption.

Fox is accused (by the press at least) of having business dealings with his former flat mate and best friend, Adam Werritty.  Werritty is believed to have travelled with Dr Fox on his trips abroad to "advise" on security deals, etc.  Werritty was never employed as an official advisor and yet he had business cards made up to claim that he was.

The whole thing stinks and is of course a major embarrassment for the Conservatives.  This could not have come at a worse time as all eyes were on the party anyway due to the conference.  However, Cameron may be hoping that this will go away.

At the moment there is terrible trouble with the economy and for once it is believed that Cameron would rather this was focused on rather than the troubles surrounding Fox.  In fact there is to be a special session in Parliament today where Fox will answer MPs' questions.  I for one will be taking an interest as I would like to hear what he has to say.  The fact is that the papers will not drop this issue, not if they think it will sell copies.  We may see his resignation by the end of the week, we may not.  Keep watching the papers and the news.

In other political news.  Chris Huhne, the MP for Eastleigh and the Energy Secretary for the coalition has been caught being very silly again.  He accidently Tweeted from his phone that there was a story coming out that he wished to encourage, but he didn't 'want his [sic] finger prints all over it'.  There are two ways of looking at this story.  Who or what was the story about (Foxy?)?  Also the geek world will have looked at this and snickered into their monitors/smart phones.  To send a text to update Twitter, all you need to do is send a text.  To send a direct message to someone on Twitter, all you do is start it 'd' and then the persons' @.  Huhne sent a normal text without the prefix and therefore updated Twitter for all to see.  This was deleted, but enough time had passed for the world to see the Tweet and the automatic update to Facebook.  I think this will be remembered more for his technological stupidity than anything else.
