How Sez Sees It

I was feeling down lately so I thought I would try coming off of Twitter. I know what you are going to ask...how down? Then, why twitter? Well for about as long as I can remember I have had periods of real lows. I don't just mean feeling a little down in the dumps, I mean full on I could throw myself in front of a bus moments. This got worse (through reasons that don't need discussing here) and became full on depression about 6 years ago. I dealt with the worst of it, but it comes and goes in bouts. Now for the reason why Twitter as opposed to Facebook or Tumblr or some other social networking site. Facebook has a lot of family and close friends on it. People who I care about and who deeply care about me. They would notice if I wasn't around. Plus, I like talking to people on there. The messages can be as long or as short as you like and my personal experience is generally a good one on that website. Then there is Tumblr. That website is just a crazy world full of fando...

So it turns out we are allowed to say who it was now.  It was Ryan Giggs.  Amazing what you can say once someone says it in Parliament. I have to say that I am disappointed that it was Giggs.  He had the family man image, was and still is an amazing player (and is Welsh...so bonus) and he has taken years to build up his reputation.  As they say though, it takes years to build a reputation and only moments to tear it apart. Still this is going to raise more questions about the power of the 'Super Injunction' against the power of Governement.  Anything said in Parliament is supposed to be safe from the law and from the outside world.  However, with rolling coverage of everything that happens in Parliament (e.g. with the BBC Parliament channel) you can access the chamber any time you want and hear anything you want.  The MP in particular who mentioned Giggs yesterday did so to highlight a valid point.  Yes, there was a Super Injunction, but when ...

So it has been five years since Twitter was first put out in the main internet world.  Happy Birthday to Twitter.  Who would have thought that something so simple as 140 character updates would become so popular.  It is not even just a fun office toy, we have seen Twitter used by journalists, protestors and celebs alike to get a point across and get the world to sit up and take notice.  I was a late bloomer in the world of Twitter, joining nearly two years ago ostensibly to see what all the fuss was about and because I love the words of wisdom that come from the legend that is Stephen Fry.  Since then I have become a slight addict myself.  I use it to catch up on th big news stories as events unfold and most importantly I use it to keep in contact with my friend Cliff who has emigrated to Argentina.  I love Twitter (and Facebook) and I would like to wish the site a very happy birthday indeed.
