Wedding planning - an update

That's pretty much it for the planning itself. We just have to remember when to pay for everything now. Dave has to sort out his suit and I have to help my maid of honor find a dress but everything else is done. The most difficult part has been trying to keep someone, who shall remain nameless, out of certain aspects of the planning. All in all we are really looking forward to the whole thing though. It is now less than five months until we get married and I am beginning to wonder if it will feel any different after we have gone through the ceremony and made it official.

Hay fever 2016 edition

According to reports 2016 is a particularly bad year for hay fever sufferers. This is something to do with the fact that we had a warm and wet winter and spring and it created the perfect conditions for more tree pollen. The other problem appears to be that the trees are late flowering and this has clashed with the flowers and the grass pollen. Certainly in the last few days the pollen count where I live has ranged from moderate to high. The trouble is that I only realised I had hay fever a few years ago. I had just started a new job and one of the managers was retiring. Our office had so many flowers in it we could have opened our own florists! I developed an itchy nose and throat and really gunky eyes. I developed hay fever. Since then I have noticed that I get a bad bout every other year. Apparently there are certain trees, like the Birch , that have two yearly cycles of really intense pollen and 2016 is one of those years. I have to say that this year I have been especially ba

How to be polite

Image
I was wondering about this. As a nation the Brits are often held up as being paragons of politeness, but is this true and is this something that always happens? What about when we have to be rude to be kind? There have been a couple of things lately that got me thinking about this. For a start, there are people in the office on diets and they struggle to turn down offers of food when someone comes in with cakes on birthdays or after a holiday. There is a real sense of awkwardness when they do this and you can tell they are not happy about hurting someone's feelings over this but they really want to stick to their diet. They are not being rude of course but are worrying about seeming so. That is such a British thing to do. Then there was a case the other day where someone told a story of a past office relationship that turned sour. All they did was politely ask a colleague to stop talking for a little while so they could concentrate on their work. This was after months of th

EUROVISION!

It is my favourite time of the year! I prefer this time of year to even Christmas. The sun is shining, tennis season is just on the horizon (by that I mean the French Open and Wimbledon are coming up) and to kick start the party is the biggest party in the world - Eurovision! I honestly get sick with excitement every year over Eurovision. I love how camp, kitch, fashionable, accepting, and brilliant the whole thing is. The costumes, make-up, hair, voices, dancers and musicians are all wonderful. It is great to see Europe (and the world) united in this celebration of that great thing that brings us all together...Eurovision. To anyone who has never watched or would like to watch it for the first time you need some background to understand just how important this competition is. I will also explain some of the rules and some of the scoring. Basically, 26 countries in Europe (although I will explain this isn't quite the case in a moment) qualify to take part in the final which i

How to dress right

I'm not a fashion expert and anyone who knows me will attest that I am not the most fashionable person but I have picked up some tips and tricks which are really useful. These are things that work for me anyway. Pick a size bigger When you are shopping for a dress and find one with a zip up the back you need to go for a size bigger than you normally do. A girl working in a bridal shop told me this applies to any dress for any occasion. Apparently the material is always pulled tighter because of the zip (so nothing to do with body type) and as a result they always come up small. When she told me she also said that they should basically resize everything because that logic doesn't add up but it is true, so there is a tip that is very useful. An example, I am normally a size 16 for top or standard dress size but I need to buy an 18 when there is a zip up the back. How to prevent chafing There is a truth that any one of any size, who doesn't have a thigh gap, will know

Something you might not know about me...

I actually really enjoy watching sport. This is something that often surprises people but I am quite fond of sticking the TV on and watching some sport or other and like to go and see live sport when I can too. I am not a sporty person myself but I think I am just impressed that there are humans out there than can perform these amazing feats of strength and stamina. This week I have been especially impressed with Leicester City winning the Premier League. This football club were at the bottom of the table and just scraped out of the relegation zone last season. This season has seen them consistently draw and win against huge teams like Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal. It was an interesting season as Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) were able to get to second and were serious contenders to take the top spot from Leicester. This was also unexpected as it is usually teams like Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd or Liverpool that you expect to see at the top. The team spirit at Leicester is amaz
