Solar - the future?

Not in the UK it would seem.  Recent directives would suggest that the government funding for solar panels is being withdrawn.  I must add here that this is currently under consultation, but it is not looking good.

A lot of people are fed up with this as they were hoping to get concessions for having them put on their private housing.  What isn't widely known is how the effect will be felt in local government as well.  Many LGs have been spending large amounts of time and people power to try and follow directives from the Government and European Government to look at cutting the UKs emissions.  LGs are supposed to be leading by example to attract people to follow suit with private housing.  Cuts in funding for a project like this are very backwards.

In this country we are seeing a rise in energy costs as we have become more and more reliant on gas and oil from overseas.  We don't even have any British owned energy companies anymore. Renewables are really the only way forward.  Now in this country, solar power is hardly the most effective form of renewable energy, but it is one of the most popular.  Wind turbines in the North Sea would be more effective, but people don't want them as they see them as an eye sore.  Places such as the River Severn have tidal generators, but this is only viable in a small number of locations around the UK.  Solar panels can be fitted to any South facing roof and in some cases can be stand alone from the property.  As such, people seem to have taken to these and the thought of government concessions, etc. proved a winner in many people's eyes.

This does have an affect on me.  I cannot go into details, but suffice to say I have been involved with projects, as have a lot of people I work with.  I think it is wonderful how much work has gone in and how enthusiastic a lot of places and people have been about this work and I feel it is a real shame that the government is being so short sighted about this.  If I could speak to Energy Secretary, Chris Huhne, I would tell him this and ask that he reconsider.  The UK should be a leading world force in projects like this, not lagging behind.  There are companies who have bought in stock that will now go to waste and people employed for this work that will be unemployed as a result.  If Chris Huhne is in Eastleigh, which is just up the road from where I live, I would like to come and talk about this and see just why the government thinks this is a good idea, because I and a lot of others do not think so.
