The point I want to quickly focus on is the lack of jobs and the struggles of the 1m young people out of work.

In the past when there have been recessions or times of hardship the people and government have turned to the public sector to help out.  After all in times of hardship it is the public services that people most need.  More jobs were created so that meant more people could find work and that meant that more money could be spent by more people.  In a short period of time unemployment figures dropped and the economy strengthened with the increase in spending power of more people.

What are the current government doing?  Cutting public sector jobs.  This doesn't help the ecomony and will drag it down further.  Create more jobs so that more people can be helped by the public sector and then some of these 1m unemployed youngsters will have jobs and help to spend our way out of our economic problems.  The government's approach is backwards and dangerous for society.

I know there are other problems that contribute, such as the high prices of energy bills, but there could at least be a start here.  The other day Edwina Currie said there was no one 'starving' in this country.  I would ask her about the couple, who were not particularly old who had to walk 10 miles a week for food handouts because they could not afford a car or bus and then had to keep the food in carrier bags in their back garden because they could not afford a fridge.  They were so worried about how to get through the winter with no heating that they committed suicide.  I am sorry, so they were not starving, but they were barely existing.  They felt they had no other option but to kill themselves.  Shame on Currie and shame on the government for allowing a couple (one had fought in the army for this country) to get to this state.

There are many problems that need to be addressed, but cutting public sector jobs is a huge mistake.
