The world is terrible

How to make the world a better place

Right now the world seems terrible. There are so many bad things going on in the world that it is easy to lose track of the good in people. After all, you have the President of the United States who thinks that comparing the size of his button (nuclear) with the one belonging to the dictator of North Korea is a great idea. The POTUS believes he is the smartest human to ever human and that all the news outlets are just 'fake news' and out to get him. Then you have the UK PM who is totally ineffectual and is presiding over the car crash that is Brexit and the destruction of our greatest ever national accomplishment, the NHS. On top of that you have a YouTuber who thinks that going to a sacred forest (Aokigahara - Japan), where people go to tragically end their lives, and dancing around like a tit when he finds a victim of suicide is a top idea for views.

There is a glimmer of hope

There is so much other crap going on right now as well that it can be hard to remember there are forces for good. At the 2018 Golden Globes most of the attendees wore black to signify the death of the old ways of Hollywood. Since the sex scandals came to the fore in October 2017 there has been a huge shift in attitudes and people standing up to say they have had enough. I see this movement as something encouraging. It has a long way to go and there is so much more that will come out but we must use this experience as a chance to change things. Not just in Hollywood though, in every industry. This is just the start of things to come. Good things.

Doing something

It doesn't have to be huge but little changes can make the world a better place. You could volunteer your free time to something. You could raise money for charity and there are many ways to do so. In fact I will put some links below with some explanations. Even just being kinder to those around you can make a difference. Check in on people around you regularly and show some kindness. You never know the difference it might make.

Charity links

Easyfundraising - this is great. You join and pick a charity to donate to. Then you go to your normal online shopping sites, via their website, and buy what you want. The online shopping sites pay Easyfundraising a commission which all goes to your charity of choice!

GoFundMe - this is a way of setting up a giving page where you can state the cause you are raising money for and what you are going to do and then people can sponsor you online.

Cancer Research - they have a fantastic range of fund raising ideas. You can set personal challenges, like giving up sugar for a month or walking more than 10,000 steps a day or learning to ballroom dance! There are loads of ideas on their website.

Run For Charity - on this site you have a list of 100 top fund raising ideas. Some are physical, some are baking, some are parties. Basically there is something on the list for everyone of any background, with any interest and of any ability. Great way to find something you can do. Then you just have to decide where the money is donated.

Royal Voluntary Service - by plugging your postcode in to this website you can find local volunteering opportunities.
