April Fools - The Best Media Hoaxes

I know it is a couple of days late but I thought I would put down my favourites now I have discovered them all.  So in no particular order here they are:

1. The Guardian - had a 'live' Royal Blog.  The newspaper's website claimed that they had changed their minds about the monarchy and were throwing their weight behind the whole wedding.  Their live updates started out to seem normal, then news broke that vandals had broken into LegoLand Windsor and de-faced the model mock-up of the wedding day.  This vandalism was in the form of threats to the happy couple and apparently Buckinham Palace took is so seriously the wedding was off!  Then apparently, at 11.38 the paper was told their blog had to cease as it contraviened the 1840-something Treason Act and the blog was pulled...just in time for the 12.00 cut off point.

2. Radio 4 - had an announcement on the Today Programme of 3D radio.  You would be able to hear it in one ear, then the other and then all around you (and it would be a new experience and nothing like surround sound or stereo).

3.  The Sun - reported that Gorrillas (the apes...not the fighters) were being given iPads to prevent boredom so they could go on Facebook and the like.

4.  The Daily Express - ran a story about a zimmer frame for the more adventurous older person.  This consisted of your standard frame with a skate board attached.  When the Mike Bushel of BBC Breakfast's sports team tried to use this as a joke as well that morning stand in presenter Louise Minchin ruined it for him on the first attempt at 06.15 by pointing out that it was 1 April...not in on the joke there then Louise?

5.  The Independent - ran what was possibly my favourite joke of the day.  A financially struggling Portugal was going to sell the nationality of Christiano Ronaldo to neighbouring Spain.  As he had honed his sport in England apparently PM David Cameron was going to place a counter offer for his nationality on the table so he could play for the England team.

And finally something that turned out to be true.  I would like to apologise to my boyfriend's brother who announced that Katie Price, aka Jordan would be attending our local shopping centre on 1 April.  We al told him we thought he was lying...turns out he wasn't and she was there after all...but then again...oh well...
